The Labyrinth Modal Ensemble is a new production by the Musical Workshop Labyrinth which includes some of the world's foremost artists in the realm of modal music with a special emphasis on new works composed especially for the ensemble. Indeed a large portion of the repertoire is comprised are the works of the participants themselves. The composition of the ensemble is not always the same, changing from time to time in order to accent different modal traditions and soundscapes. The present composition includes musicians from Greece, Iran, Turkey and Spain in which the influences brought to the ensemble by each member are clearly discernible without having a limiting effect in any way. The Labyrinth Modal Ensemble maintains a delicate balance between the creative needs of today's musicians and audiences and the depth and wisdom of ancient traditions. This production was presented to enthusiastic audiences at the 2nd Athens Festival as well as at the Theater N. Kazantzakis in the city of Heraklion on Crete
