"In my work with the Silk Road Project I want to extend the compass of my musical imagination, to make a deeper and smoother connection with the audiences and musicians in our performances and to plunge into the kind of compound music that is composed by the best and performed by the best."Siamak Aghaei is a member of the Silk Road Ensemble and ranks among the very best Iranian classical musicians of his generation. He began studying the santur [SAN toor] at the age of eight with the renowned master Parvis Meshkatian and the radif [ra DEEF] (Persian classical repertoire) with Majid Kiani, a well-known interpreter of the radif. He received his degree in music from Tehran University of the Arts and resides in Tehran, where he is active as a teacher of the santur. Siamak Aghaei performs with the Silk Road Ensemble, appears on the album Silk Road Journeys: When Strangers Meet and was featured in the photo exhibit entitled The Silk Road Ensemble: Portraits and Places. |
