Labyrinth first came into contact with the group Stellamara through the Canadian cellist Rufus Cappadocia, who had worked with Ross Daly previously and was one of the soloists in his three part work Synavgeia which was released in 1995. Stellamara is headed by multi-instrumentalist Gari Hegedus and singer Sonja Drakulich, and their prime interest is centered on the modal musical traditions of Turkey, Iran, the Arab world, the Balkans and the music of the Middle Ages.
In August 2005 they were invited to the Musical Workshop Labyrinth for an extended stay together with Rufus Cappadocia and Tobias Roberson. Within the context of the summer program of events they performed a concert together with Ross Daly and members of Labyrinth.
The common musical interests of these two groups, as well as their continuous search for creative approaches to tradition are what brought them together in a truly fruitful union. They performed old as well as new material which acquired totally new dimensions due to the fresh and innovative approach taken by all.
